Worn Teeth Fixed in One Visit – Patient Story
The patient was referred by her general dental practitioner for specialist evaluation, and presented with healthy natural dentition. With time teeth wear meant that her smile appeared worn and given how energetic she is we all felt that her smile is lot older than her biologic age.

My approach was smile rejuvenation with improvement in the level of tooth display using direct composite veneers/restoration using my one visit procedure. This involved no tooth intervention, no discomfort or injections (on the upper arch) using composite veneers to improve: tooth shape, colour, display, arch form & shape (the reverse smile line) to complement facial aesthetics of this lovely patient.
The patient presented with healthy dentition. Time and tooth wear go together as it is a natural process. However, when tooth wear affects patient’s aesthetics, it becomes a concern, hence the reason for her presentation. Her referring dentist was adamant about a non-invasive approach and therefore referred the patient to my practice
Chief concerns:
- improve the aesthetic apperance of her worn smile
- improve the the teeth display during speech and smile dynamics,
- improve the narrow upper arch shape and smile line as well as tooth colour.
Diagnosis: Unacceptable tooth, assymetry and narrow upper arch: creating an aesthetic disturbance.
Diagnostic mock up 10 upper teeth: correcting the reverse smile line and accepted by the patient.
Our Aim: to improve the aesthetics of upper arch: tooth shape, display, tooth colour, length, symmetry and smile line in general along the upper arch involving 10 maxillary teeth composite veneers.
This was accomplished with minimal discomfort to the patient and using no tooth intervention (I did not cut any of the patient’s teeth). Therefore, the tooth enamel is intact.
Diagnostic mock up 10 upper teeth; smile line arch shape and form and proposed colour of the planned restorations (material and shade) selection. The patient is now happy with the shade and level of teeth display. We have the formula for aesthetic success. There is no guessing. This is real smile design.
The result was achieved with zero tooth invasion (no cutting the teeth) using composite veneers. That is the patient’s natural teeth are intact! Something to think about. Art and speed do not mix. You must think in 3D and visualise.
My patient presented to me wishing to improve the colour of her teeth and their overall aesthetic appearance. This patient had become self-conscious about her teeth. The top teeth were spatially shorter and had a worn appearance due to bruxism or grinding (can be night-time and or daytime bruxism). The appearance of the top six teeth were particularly compromised, especially during speech and smiling. The worn short teeth had created a flat smile line.
The work was completed in one visit after mock-up diagnostics
